50 Cent wasted almost no time turning Rick Ross’ latest legal trouble into another chapter of their nearly two-decade feud, mocking his longtime rival on social media within minutes of reports that Ross had been arrested in Miami Beach on domestic-violence-related charges.
Ross, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts II, surrendered to Miami Beach police Thursday, October 1, and was booked on one felony count of battery by strangulation and one misdemeanor battery count. The 50-year-old rapper has pleaded not guilty, posted bond and been released from custody. His attorneys say he is innocent and characterize the accusations against him as false.
50 Cent’s reaction came almost immediately.
After a report carrying Ross’ newly released mugshot began circulating, 50 reposted the news and wrote simply: “LOL 😆 ARRESTED.” Complex reported that his post appeared within minutes of the arrest becoming public, while another report placed his reaction less than 30 minutes after the news broke.
He wasn’t finished.
As footage from Ross’ first court appearance began circulating, 50 found another moment to exploit. During the hearing, Ross’ attorney asked whether his release could be expedited in part because of his celebrity status. Judge Mindy Glazer responded that she didn’t know who Ross was and made clear his fame wouldn’t result in preferential treatment.
That was effectively an open invitation for 50 Cent.
“The judge don’t know that fool,” 50 wrote while sharing the clip, before adding that Ross should be booked.
For anyone familiar with 50 Cent and Rick Ross’ history, the speed of the response was hardly surprising.
50 Cent Had Already Commented on the Abuse Allegations
The arrest didn’t come completely out of nowhere.
Days earlier, Ross’ former girlfriend Jazzma Kendrick publicly accused him of physically abusing her. Kendrick posted photographs to Instagram Stories that appeared to show an injured and swollen lip and alleged that Ross had caused the injury.
Responding to one person online, Kendrick described herself as having been treated like a “punching bag.”
50 Cent noticed those allegations before Ross was ever arrested.
“This punk put his hands on baby girl,” 50 wrote while reacting to Kendrick’s claims. But even as he continued taking shots at Ross, 50 added an important qualification: “I’d laugh at him, but domestic violence is not a joke.”
At the time, Kendrick’s accusations were social-media allegations.
Days later, Ross was in custody.
Police Say the Alleged Incident Happened in August
The criminal case stems from an alleged August 28 confrontation.
According to the arrest report, the woman told investigators that Ross confronted her after seeing a photograph on Instagram and questioning whether she was involved with another man. Authorities allege the argument escalated into physical violence.
The woman alleges Ross repeatedly struck her, grabbed her and choked her to the point that she struggled to breathe. Authorities also allege she was slammed into a wall during the encounter.
Those allegations are the basis of the criminal charges.
They are not established facts.
Ross has pleaded not guilty.
His attorneys have categorically rejected the accusation and say their client was wrongfully accused.
Ross Turned Himself In
Ross surrendered Thursday morning rather than being captured during a police raid or traffic stop.
Miami-Dade jail records showed him being booked shortly after 6 a.m. at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
He subsequently appeared before a judge for a bond hearing.
The court ordered Ross to stay away from the alleged victim while the criminal case is pending. He was later released after posting bond.
His next major scheduled court proceeding is an arraignment on October 22.
The Judge’s Reaction Gave 50 Cent More Material
Ross’ bond hearing quickly became almost as viral as the arrest itself.
His attorney attempted to explain who his client was and asked the court to expedite the release process because Ross is a celebrity who could attract attention while being held.
Judge Glazer wasn’t persuaded by the fame argument.
“I have no idea who you are,” she told Ross during the proceeding, according to coverage of the hearing.
The moment immediately spread across social media.
For 50 Cent — whose feud with Ross has included years of attacks on Ross’ record sales, wealth, career, appearance and credibility — the clip practically wrote the joke for him.
He reposted it and mocked Ross over the judge apparently not recognizing one of hip-hop’s most recognizable rappers.
It was classic 50 Cent: find the most embarrassing moment in an opponent’s bad day and amplify it to millions of followers.
Ross Says He’s Innocent
Ross isn’t conceding anything.
After being released, he told reporters that he was “totally innocent” and expressed confidence that the allegations against him would eventually be rejected.
His attorneys Steve Sadow and Bradley Horenstein issued a more detailed defense.
“William Roberts II, professionally known as Rick Ross, is being wrongfully accused by an ex-girlfriend whose true motivations are unclear,” the attorneys said in a statement reported by iHeartRadio.
They also pointed to the time between the alleged August 28 incident and the filing of a police report approximately one month later, arguing that the delay raises questions about the accusation. They asked the public not to prejudge Ross and to allow the case to move through the courts.
A delay in reporting an alleged assault doesn’t itself determine whether an allegation is true or false.
That will be part of the evidence prosecutors and Ross’ defense can address as the case proceeds.
Police Reportedly Sought Surveillance Footage
The case could ultimately involve more than competing accounts from Ross and his accuser.
Police reportedly searched Ross’ Star Island residence and sought surveillance footage that investigators believe could be relevant to the alleged encounter.
If footage exists and captured any portion of the alleged incident, it could become significant evidence.
Exactly what the surveillance system recorded, if anything, hasn’t been publicly established.
The existence of an investigation also shouldn’t be interpreted as proof that the allegations are true.
Ross is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
50 Cent and Rick Ross Have Been Beefing Since 2009
The speed of 50 Cent’s trolling makes considerably more sense when viewed against the history between the two rappers.
Their feud dates back to 2009 and has survived longer than many rap careers.
It has included diss records.
Interviews.
Social-media attacks.
Personal accusations.
Business comparisons.
Sales arguments.
Courtroom battles.
And seemingly endless attempts by each rapper to embarrass the other.
What started during the peak of both men’s rap careers gradually transformed into one of hip-hop’s longest-running personal rivalries.
The music itself became almost secondary.
Years later, 50 and Ross can turn practically any development in the other’s life into ammunition.
Their Feud Has Continued in 2026
The rivalry hasn’t cooled with age.
Earlier this year, 50 mocked the projected sales of Ross’ latest album, Set in Stone. Ross responded by accusing 50 of financial wrongdoing connected to his massive G-Unit Studios development in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Those exchanges showed that neither man had any intention of declaring the feud over.
Ross has repeatedly targeted 50’s business ventures.
50 has repeatedly attacked Ross’ commercial performance.
And whenever one experiences a public setback, the other tends to appear.
Thursday was no exception.
But the Allegations Behind the Arrest Are Serious
There is an important difference between 50 Cent making jokes about album sales and the circumstances surrounding Ross’ arrest.
A woman is alleging domestic violence.
The felony charge accuses Ross of battery by strangulation.
That makes the underlying case considerably more serious than the celebrity trolling surrounding it.
Even 50 appeared to recognize that distinction when Kendrick first made her allegations publicly, writing that domestic violence wasn’t something to laugh about despite continuing to attack Ross personally.
That distinction matters as the social-media spectacle grows.
50’s posts are entertainment and commentary from Ross’ longtime rival.
They aren’t evidence in the criminal case.
Ross’ Arrest Came Days After Kendrick Went Public
The timing has made the story especially explosive.
Kendrick publicly accused Ross of abuse on September 26.
She shared photographs of her injured lip and claimed Ross had been physically violent toward her.
On October 1, Ross surrendered to authorities on domestic-violence-related charges connected to an alleged August 28 incident.
Ross’ attorneys have challenged the accusations and specifically noted that the police report wasn’t filed until roughly a month after the alleged incident.
The criminal process will now determine whether prosecutors can prove their case.
50 Cent Asked for the Bodycam
Even after the first joke, 50 appeared eager for more material.
“LOL ARRESTED, I NEED THAT BODY CAM ASAP!” he wrote in another version of his reaction shared alongside Ross’ mugshot.
That comment reflects how modern celebrity arrests increasingly play out.
The arrest itself becomes news.
Then comes the mugshot.
Then the court video.
Potentially, body-camera footage follows.
Each piece can become its own viral moment.
And when 50 Cent is involved, every new piece of footage can become another opportunity to continue the feud.
Ross Walked Out of Jail Maintaining His Innocence
Despite the online jokes, Ross left custody Thursday and immediately began presenting his side publicly.
He denied the allegations and maintained his innocence.
He even joked with reporters about what he planned to eat after his release, saying he was looking forward to a bowl of rigatoni with heavy marinara.
The relaxed public appearance contrasted sharply with the seriousness of the charges.
That doesn’t tell the public whether Ross is guilty or innocent.
It does show that he and his legal team appear prepared to fight the case rather than seek to quietly resolve it.
Now the Criminal Case Moves Forward
The internet battle between 50 Cent and Rick Ross will almost certainly continue.
The legal case is different.
Ross faces one felony battery-by-strangulation charge and one misdemeanor battery charge stemming from allegations that he assaulted a woman during an August 28 confrontation. He has pleaded not guilty, has been released on bond and has been ordered to stay away from the alleged victim.
His attorneys say the accusations are false.
Prosecutors will have to prove otherwise.
50 Cent, meanwhile, needed only minutes to turn the arrest into the newest installment of one of rap’s longest feuds.
First came Ross’ mugshot.
Then came 50’s “LOL ARRESTED.”
Then a judge said she didn’t know who Ross was.
And 50 Cent was right back online.
After nearly 18 years of hostility between the two rappers, even a criminal court appearance was enough to restart a rivalry that seemingly never goes dormant.
