Aubrey O’Day Says She Was Served With a Lawsuit While Performing at Honolulu Pride

Former Danity Kane singer Aubrey O’Day says her appearance at Honolulu Pride took an unexpected turn when she was served with legal documents while performing at the annual LGBTQ+ celebration in Hawaii.

O’Day was scheduled to headline the October 17 festival, an event intended to celebrate LGBTQ+ pride, community and entertainment. However, according to the singer, what should have been a celebratory performance was interrupted by an unusual legal encounter that has since attracted attention.

The incident raises questions about the timing and circumstances of the alleged service, particularly because O’Day has remained a prominent public voice in conversations surrounding her former music industry connections and the controversies involving Sean “Diddy” Combs.

However, the identity of the person or organization behind the reported lawsuit, the nature of the legal claims and whether the documents were successfully served have not yet been independently established.

O’Day Says She Was Recovering From COVID-19 Before the Performance

The reported legal interruption was not the only challenge O’Day faced during her appearance.

In a social media post following the event, the singer revealed that she had been recovering from COVID-19 and had lost her voice just one day before taking the stage.

O’Day wrote on X:

“So much fun tonight for Honolulu Pride. I don’t know how I got through getting served a lawsuit as I started the show.. coming out of Covid with no voice the day before.. but I’m just thankful that I have surrounded myself with people who support me unconditionally.”

Despite those circumstances, O’Day completed her scheduled performance.

The singer appeared during the festival’s final mainstage segment at the Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell, alongside RuPaul’s Drag Race personality Anetra and DJ Mark Kanemura. Their performances were part of the evening’s closing entertainment program, scheduled between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

The Incident Comes Amid Renewed Attention on O’Day’s History With Diddy

The timing of O’Day’s reported legal encounter has attracted additional interest because of her longstanding criticism of Sean “Diddy” Combs, the Bad Boy Records founder who helped launch her career through MTV’s Making the Band.

O’Day rose to prominence as a member of Danity Kane, the girl group formed through the reality television series. Over the years, she has spoken publicly about her experiences working under Combs and has criticized aspects of his management and treatment of artists.

More recently, O’Day appeared in Netflix’s documentary Sean Combs: The Reckoning, which examined the music executive’s career and the allegations surrounding him.

During the documentary, O’Day read from an affidavit containing allegations of a 2005 sexual assault involving Combs and another man. Those allegations have not been established as fact.

Her participation brought renewed attention to her complicated history with the Bad Boy Records founder and her willingness to discuss allegations surrounding his conduct.

However, there is currently no verified evidence connecting the lawsuit O’Day says she received at Honolulu Pride to Combs or the Netflix documentary. Any suggestion of such a connection would be speculative.

Questions Remain About the Lawsuit

Although O’Day publicly described being served with a lawsuit, she has not disclosed the plaintiff’s identity, the allegations contained in the documents or the court in which the reported action was filed.

It also remains unclear who delivered the documents and whether the legal papers were handed to her onstage or elsewhere as her performance began.

Being served with legal documents generally means that a person is being formally notified of a legal proceeding. It does not establish that the recipient has committed wrongdoing or that the allegations in a complaint are valid.

Without the underlying court documents, the nature and significance of the reported lawsuit cannot be independently assessed.

O’Day Thanks Supporters After Difficult Weekend

Rather than allowing the reported incident to dominate her public response, O’Day emphasized her appreciation for the people who supported her throughout the weekend.

Her comments focused on the difficulties of performing while recovering from illness, the unexpected legal encounter and the encouragement she received from those around her.

The singer’s decision to complete the performance also ensured that the festival’s closing entertainment proceeded despite the personal challenges she described.

For now, the most significant unanswered question is what lawsuit O’Day was reportedly served with and whether she intends to address its contents publicly.

Until additional information becomes available, the incident remains a legal development described by O’Day herself, with the underlying allegations and parties still unidentified.
