Drake could be preparing for a major return to the Coachella stage in 2027, more than a decade after his last headlining performance at the festival.

The Toronto superstar is reportedly among the names being discussed for next year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, according to an Oct. 2 report from music-industry publication HITS Daily Double. The outlet’s wording is important: Drake is “said to be in the Coachella discussion.” That places his name in the developing lineup conversation but does not establish that a deal has been signed or that Drake has officially been booked.

Coachella has not announced Drake as a performer, and Drake’s team has not publicly confirmed that he will headline the festival. XXL reported that it reached out to his team for comment following the report.

Still, the timing makes the possibility particularly interesting.

Drake has already confirmed plans to return to touring in 2027, has spent 2026 releasing a massive amount of new music, and recently teased that there are “some big shows” on the horizon. A Coachella headline performance would fit directly into that schedule while giving him one of the world’s biggest festival stages at the beginning of what could become a massive touring year.

Drake Is Back in the Coachella Conversation

The new speculation traces directly to HITS Daily Double’s Oct. 2 HITS List, rather than an official Coachella announcement.

The brief industry item said Drake was “said to be in the Coachella discussion,” and that sentence quickly spread across hip-hop and entertainment media.

Complex subsequently reported that Drake could potentially fill one of the major positions on the 2027 bill, while XXL described him as a rumored headliner. Neither report said the booking had been finalized.

That distinction matters.

Festival negotiations can involve multiple artists before a final lineup is assembled. Being discussed for a headline position doesn’t necessarily mean an artist has agreed to perform, signed a contract or even entered advanced negotiations.

For now, Drake should therefore be described as a reported possibility rather than a confirmed Coachella 2027 headliner.

But he would make sense.

Drake Has Already Confirmed He’s Going on Tour in 2027

The Coachella chatter arrives only weeks after Drake publicly confirmed that he’s planning to return to the road next year.

Speaking with Canada’s etalk in September, Drake said a tour was coming and suggested other major performances were also being planned.

“Obviously, tour is coming, and other things on the horizon,” Drake said, later adding that he would be out in 2027 seeing fans around the world.

That comment now looks considerably more interesting.

Drake didn’t identify Coachella when he mentioned “other things” or “big shows,” so it would be speculation to say he was referring to the festival. But the timing means a potential Coachella booking would fit naturally into plans that Drake has already publicly acknowledged.

Coachella 2027 is scheduled for April 9-11 and April 16-18 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.

That would place the festival early enough in the year to potentially become a major launching point for Drake’s broader 2027 live run.

It Would Be Drake’s First Coachella Headline Set Since 2015

If an agreement is eventually reached, Drake would return to the top of the Coachella poster 12 years after his previous headline appearance.

Drake headlined the festival in 2015, closing both Sunday nights during a year when AC/DC and Jack White were also top-billed.

That appearance came during a completely different period of Drake’s career.

He had just released If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late and was moving into the Views era that would push his commercial dominance even further.

One of the most memorable moments of the 2015 performance came when Madonna unexpectedly appeared during Drake’s set.

The two performed together before Madonna kissed Drake onstage, instantly creating one of the festival’s most widely discussed moments that year.

Drake later returned to Coachella in 2017, but not as a headliner.

He appeared as a surprise guest during Future’s set, with the two performing material connected to their collaborative history, including “Jumpman.”

A 2027 booking would therefore represent Drake’s first time leading the festival since 2015.

The Drake Returning in 2027 Would Have a Much Larger Catalog

A potential Coachella return would also present an entirely different programming challenge than Drake faced in 2015.

His catalog has expanded dramatically.

Everything from Views, More Life, Scorpion, Certified Lover Boy, Honestly, Nevermind, Her Loss and the projects that followed would now be available alongside the material that already existed when he first headlined.

Then there is his enormous 2026 output.

Drake released ICEMAN, MAID OF HONOUR and HABIBTI in May, giving him three separate bodies of new material heading into the next touring cycle.

That alone gives him enough recent music to build an entirely different Coachella performance from anything he has done there before.

His recent live performances also provide a clue about how he might approach it.

Wireless Showed How Drake Can Divide His Catalog

Drake’s 2025 Wireless Festival takeover in London demonstrated one possible blueprint.

Rather than performing essentially the same concert repeatedly, Drake built his three-night run around different parts of his catalog, separating R&B material, rap records and Caribbean-influenced music into different experiences.

That strategy becomes even more interesting in the context of Coachella.

The festival takes place across two weekends.

If Drake wanted to create different performances for Weekend One and Weekend Two, he now has more than enough material to do it.

His 2026 releases have also continued to emphasize the different musical identities that have defined his career.

A potential Coachella set could move between hard rap records, massive pop hits, R&B songs, dance records and collaborations without exhausting his catalog.

The question would be what version of Drake he wanted to present.

The FOMO Era Is Still Expanding

The Coachella report surfaced at almost exactly the same time Drake expanded HABIBTI with material from his FOMO film.

On Oct. 2, Drake released HABIBTI (FOMO), adding four songs fans had been waiting to receive officially after hearing them during the Fear of Missing Out rollout.

The additions include “Solar Eclipse (Choosin’ Texas Remix)” featuring Don Toliver, “Cold Shoulder” featuring Don Toliver and Yebba, “Québec” and “Classic Pt. 2.”

The expanded release followed Drake’s 57-minute FOMO film, which featured unreleased and reworked music alongside the surreal visual project.

That means Drake isn’t entering the Coachella discussion during a quiet period between albums.

He’s actively extending one of the busiest release cycles of his career.

Coachella’s 2027 Headliners Are Still Taking Shape

Drake also isn’t the only superstar whose name has circulated around Coachella 2027.

Complex, citing earlier HITS Daily Double reporting, said Tame Impala, Dua Lipa and Fred again.. are among the artists expected to be involved with next year’s festival. The publication also reported that BTS, SZA, Oasis and Radiohead have been pursued for another headline position, while Miley Cyrus reportedly declined an offer.

Those reports should be treated as developing booking information rather than an official lineup.

Coachella’s final poster remains the definitive confirmation.

Until organizers announce the lineup, the exact combination of headliners remains subject to change.

But Drake entering that conversation immediately adds another enormous possibility.

A Drake Coachella Return Would Carry Different Stakes in 2027

There is also a broader reason a 2027 Coachella performance would attract so much attention.

Drake has spent the past several years at the center of one of the most scrutinized periods of his career.

His battle with Kendrick Lamar dramatically altered the conversation surrounding both artists in 2024, producing some of the biggest rap records and cultural moments of the decade.

Since then, every major Drake release and public appearance has been analyzed through the question of what comes next.

By 2026, Drake has clearly chosen volume rather than retreat.

Three projects.

A film.

More music.

A confirmed world tour on the horizon.

And now, potentially, Coachella.

A headline set in Indio would put Drake back on one of America’s most visible live stages at a moment when his career has accumulated another 12 years of history since his first Coachella headline performance.

The Guest Possibilities Would Be Enormous

There is another reason a Drake headline slot would generate immediate speculation: guests.

Drake’s catalog contains collaborations with an extraordinary number of artists.

His recent releases alone expand those possibilities.

Then there are longtime collaborators and artists who have appeared throughout different periods of his career.

Coachella has historically rewarded spectacle and surprise appearances, and Drake already used his 2015 headline set to bring Madonna onto the stage.

A 2027 return would naturally create expectations about who might join him.

But until Drake is actually confirmed, any specific guest list would be pure speculation.

The World Tour Could Make Coachella Part of Something Bigger

What makes this report especially notable is that Coachella wouldn’t necessarily be an isolated performance.

Drake has already told fans he’s going back on the road.

That means a potential April festival appearance could become part of a much larger 2027 live strategy.

Coachella could theoretically come before the tour.

It could fall between tour legs.

It could serve as a massive promotional event built around his newest material.

Or it could remain nothing more than an industry discussion that never becomes a finalized booking.

At this stage, all four possibilities remain open.

Nothing Is Official Yet

That is the most important part of the story.

Drake has not been announced as a Coachella 2027 headliner.

Coachella has not released a poster placing him on the bill.

Goldenvoice has not publicly confirmed the reported discussions.

Drake has not announced a return to the festival.

The current reporting establishes only that his name is reportedly being discussed.

That may eventually turn into a booking.

It may not.

Festival lineups can change considerably before they’re made public.

But the Timing Is Hard to Ignore

Even without confirmation, the pieces fit together unusually well.

Drake has new music.

He has a 2027 world tour coming.

He has teased other major shows.

He hasn’t headlined Coachella since 2015.

And an established music-industry publication is now reporting that his name has entered the festival discussion.

If it happens, Drake’s return to Indio would be more than another festival booking.

It would put him back at the top of the Coachella bill 12 years after his first headline run, armed with more than a decade of additional hits and coming directly out of one of the most active recording periods of his career.

For now, however, Drake remains exactly what the original report says he is:

In the discussion.
