Jay-Z and Kanye West have both said the same thing: nobody can beat them in a Verzuz.
Jay-Z said it first. In a 2021 Twitter Spaces with Alicia Keys, he argued no rapper could last on stage with him for a full Verzuz. “No one can stand on that stage with me,” he said. That clip kept coming back years later.
Kanye said it again in April 2026. At Deon Cole’s Hollywood Improv show, a comedian asked if anyone was a worthy Verzuz opponent. Ye shook his head and answered, “Nobody.” He pointed out he still has unused hits like “Gold Digger” and “Touch the Sky” after two SoFi Stadium nights.
That set off the same debate the Joe Budden Podcast just had: Jay-Z vs. Kanye.
One side says Kanye wins on volume of smash records and production. Ish argued Hov is the greatest rapper, but 20 Kanye bangers could take him out. The other side says Jay-Z wins on lead singles and live command. B.Dot and Budden both said they don’t see Jay losing if it’s song vs. song.
The matchup is obvious. They made Watch the Throne together. Kanye produced some of Jay’s biggest records. Jay signed and shaped Kanye. A Verzuz would be hits, history, and ego in the same room.
It still has never happened. Swizz Beatz once said Kanye was ready to do Verzuz against Drake. Kanye has also said he wouldn’t go against Jay because “that’s my boss.”
Until they actually do it, the question stays the same as the graphic: who would win?
