A 65-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after Riverside County sheriff's deputies responding to a late-night 911 call discovered a person dead from traumatic injuries inside an upscale Palm Desert condominium community.

Vicky Kim was taken into custody early Thursday after deputies responded to what authorities initially classified as an “unknown trouble” call in the 74000 block of Desert Tenaja Trail, an area within the Enclave at Desert Falls community.

Deputies arrived at approximately 12:38 a.m. and found a person suffering from traumatic injuries that investigators said were consistent with an assault.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kim was identified as a suspect during the initial investigation and arrested on suspicion of murder.

She was subsequently booked into the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio.

Victim Has Not Been Publicly Identified

Several important details surrounding the killing remain unknown.

Authorities have not released the victim's name, age or gender, and investigators have not publicly explained what relationship, if any, existed between Kim and the person who died.

The precise nature of the victim's injuries has also not been disclosed beyond the Sheriff's Office's statement that the injuries were traumatic and consistent with an assault.

Investigators have similarly not announced a possible motive or publicly detailed what happened before the 911 call was placed.

The circumstances surrounding that call could become important as detectives work to reconstruct the events leading to the victim's death.

Authorities have not publicly said who made the call.

Homicide Detectives Take Over Investigation

After deputies discovered the victim, investigators from the Palm Desert Sheriff's Station and Riverside County Sheriff's Office Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed control of the investigation.

The Sheriff's Office said investigators determined during the preliminary investigation that Kim was the suspect and took her into custody without disclosing additional details about the evidence that led detectives to that conclusion.

The case will ultimately be presented to the Riverside County District Attorney's Office, which will determine what formal criminal charges, if any, should be filed.

An arrest on suspicion of murder does not constitute a conviction, and Kim is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The investigation remains active.

For now, authorities have confirmed only the basic sequence: deputies responded to an overnight emergency call, discovered a person dead from injuries consistent with an assault and arrested 65-year-old Vicky Kim at the scene on suspicion of murder.

The victim's identity and the circumstances that led to the deadly encounter remain under investigation.
