Bebe Rexha decided to shoot her shot at Drake—and she didn't exactly play it subtle.
During a new appearance on Angie Martinez’s “IRL” podcast, the pop singer revealed that she recently slid into Drake’s direct messages after watching his viral “20v1” speed-dating livestream, making a straightforward case for why she believed she could be his type.
“I am your dream girl,” Rexha recalled writing. “I’m Albanian. I got a fat ass. I got my own thing going on for me.”
There was only one problem.
Drake never responded.
Rexha admitted she isn't entirely sure whether the Toronto rapper actually saw the message and chose not to answer or simply never saw it in the first place.
“I don’t even think he saw it, or he saw it and just ignored it,” she said.
The second possibility may be the more forgiving explanation. Rexha said Drake doesn't follow her, and the message never appeared as read, meaning she can't actually say that he opened it and deliberately left her without a response.
Rexha Wasn't Afraid to Shoot Her Shot
The Drake story came up as Rexha and Martinez discussed dating and whether the singer is comfortable making the first move.
Asked what type of men she sends messages to, Rexha joked that she doesn't have an especially narrow preference.
“All shapes, colors, sizes, everything,” she said.
That led directly into her revelation that Drake was among the men whose DMs she had recently entered.
Rather than opening with a generic greeting, Rexha essentially sent Drake a personal sales pitch—highlighting her Albanian background, her appearance and the fact that she has her own successful career.
Martinez even offered to help.
Because Drake follows Martinez, she suggested potentially sending him a message from her own account on Rexha’s behalf. Rexha initially rejected the idea as “too thirsty,” before suggesting Martinez could casually tell Drake that she wanted to set him up with a friend.
For Rexha, getting a clear rejection apparently wouldn't be the end of the world.
If Drake simply responded that he wasn't interested, she suggested she would accept the answer and move on.
This Wasn't Her First Awkward Drake Encounter
The unanswered DM wasn't Rexha’s first attempt at getting Drake’s attention.
She also recalled crossing paths with him years earlier at the Grammy Awards.
Rexha identified the encounter as taking place during the year she was nominated for Best New Artist, placing it at the 2019 Grammys.
According to Rexha, Drake was surrounded by his crew at the time and there appeared to be some kind of drama happening around him.
Rexha nevertheless decided to greet him.
“Hey, daddy,” she recalled saying.
The greeting apparently didn't land the way she expected.
Rexha said Drake gave her “the dirtiest look,” before a member of his security team approached her and told her, “Do not call him that.”
Rexha said she simply responded, “Oh, okay.”
She did not explain what the surrounding “drama” was, and there is no reason to assume it involved her. Her story was presented as a humorous recollection of an awkward celebrity encounter rather than a serious confrontation.
She Still Has a Crush on Drake
Despite the unanswered DM and uncomfortable Grammy interaction, Rexha doesn't appear particularly embarrassed about being interested in Drake.
During the conversation, she also brought up his history with Rihanna, joking that anyone attempting to date Drake after Rihanna has an unusually difficult standard to follow.
“I feel like anybody who’s dated Rihanna, like, you just can never go up from there,” Rexha said.
Martinez predicted that Drake might finally reach out once he sees Rexha discussing him publicly.
Rexha wasn't convinced.
For now, the message remains unanswered.
Whether Drake actually saw the singer confidently introduce herself as his “dream girl” remains another question entirely.
But between the DM and the unforgettable “Hey, daddy” encounter at the Grammys, Rexha has certainly made her interest clear.
