Doja Cat returned to Sundae Conversation for a second round with Caleb Pressley, and one of the interview’s most unexpected moments had almost nothing to do with the questions being asked.

During the August 23 episode, the Grammy-winning rapper and singer casually pulled out a vape during the conversation, took a hit and tucked it back away as Pressley watched in apparent disbelief. The move happened so casually that it immediately fit into the deliberately awkward style of Sundae Conversation, where Pressley’s unusual questions and deadpan reactions routinely create moments that feel somewhere between a traditional celebrity interview and an improvised comedy sketch.

For Doja Cat, however, the vape carried some additional history. Her vaping has been publicly discussed for years, and Pressley had already made it part of their comedic exchange when she first appeared on his show in August 2025. That made the moment in her return appearance feel almost like a continuation of a joke established during their first conversation.

Doja Cat Returned Almost Exactly a Year After Her First Interview

The new episode, titled DOJA CAT 2: Sundae Conversation with Caleb Pressley, was released on August 23, 2026. The first Doja Cat episode had been published on August 3, 2025, making her return a relatively rare repeat appearance on a format built largely around Pressley encountering different celebrities.

The chemistry between the two was already established. Pressley’s interview style depends heavily on asking celebrities questions that sound serious for a few seconds before taking an absurd turn, while Doja has built much of her own public persona around being willing to participate in internet humor rather than maintaining a carefully controlled celebrity image.

That combination made their first interview particularly suited to the format, and the second conversation continued in much the same direction. Rather than approaching the appearance like a conventional promotional interview, Doja seemed comfortable allowing the conversation to wander into intentionally strange territory.

The vape moment became a perfect example. There was no dramatic announcement or lengthy setup. Doja simply produced it, used it and continued with the conversation while Pressley reacted to what had just happened.

Vaping Was Already a Running Joke Between Doja and Pressley

The moment carried more context for viewers who remembered Doja’s first appearance.

During the August 2025 interview, Pressley directly confronted her about vaping with one of the deliberately awkward questions that has become his trademark. He asked what she liked about “sucking” her vape, prompting Doja to immediately reject his phrasing and insist that she did not “suck anything.” When Pressley changed the wording and asked about blowing out the vapor instead, Doja continued playing along with the joke.

Pressley then abruptly referenced “popcorn lung,” a term commonly associated in public discussion with serious lung damage and vaping. Rather than turning the exchange into a serious health conversation, Doja responded with dark humor.

That earlier conversation meant vaping was already part of the comedic history between the two before she sat down for the second interview.

Doja’s relationship with vaping has also attracted attention outside the show. She publicly discussed quitting in 2022 after developing problems with her tonsils that required medical treatment and ultimately contributed to her withdrawing from a tour with The Weeknd. She later attracted attention for vaping at the 2023 Met Gala despite smoking being prohibited inside the event. By the time she appeared with Pressley in 2025, she acknowledged through the exchange that she had returned to vaping.

Against that history, seeing her casually produce a vape again during the 2026 interview was less a revelation that she vapes than another characteristically unpredictable moment between her and Pressley.

The Entire Interview Was Built Around Awkward, Unpredictable Humor

The vape wasn't the only portion of Doja's second appearance that attracted attention.

Another exchange quickly spread online after Pressley asked Doja about country star Ella Langley. Pressley worked Langley's name into one of his jokes before asking Doja whether she considered herself an “Ella’s Fella.” Doja appeared genuinely confused and responded that she did not know what he was talking about.

Pressley then asked more directly whether she liked Ella Langley.

Doja still appeared not to recognize the name.

The exchange was particularly surprising because Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” was in the middle of a massive run at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 at the time. Doja’s apparent unfamiliarity with one of the biggest country artists of the moment quickly became another viral piece of the interview.

The official episode description leaned into yet another joke, teasing that Doja would debut her “first country song collaboration.” Rather than delivering a conventional sit-down centered entirely around her music career, the episode bounced between music, internet culture, deliberately confusing questions and the sort of uncomfortable pauses that Pressley frequently turns into the punchline.

Doja’s willingness to participate is a major reason the format works particularly well with her. She rarely appears concerned with giving the polished answer expected from a major pop star, and Pressley rarely seems interested in asking the polished question.

Doja Cat Has Long Had an Unpredictable Relationship With Celebrity Interviews

The appearance also reflects something that has distinguished Doja throughout her career. Even as she has become one of the biggest pop and rap artists of her generation, she has maintained much of the strange, internet-driven personality that originally helped distinguish her from artists who followed more conventional paths to fame.

Long before major awards, arena tours and No. 1 records, Doja developed an audience through online communities and viral music. Her 2018 novelty song “Mooo!” became an internet phenomenon precisely because it did not resemble the carefully managed introduction normally expected from an aspiring pop superstar.

Her career eventually became much bigger than the meme. “Say So” became a massive crossover hit, followed by records including “Kiss Me More,” “Woman” and “Paint the Town Red.” She won a Grammy and developed into an artist capable of moving between pop, rap and R&B while maintaining a deliberately unconventional public image.

That personality has occasionally generated controversy, but it has also made Doja unusually compatible with internet-native interview formats.

On Sundae Conversation, there is little pressure to behave like someone sitting for a traditional celebrity profile. The awkwardness is intentional. Strange answers are often more valuable than informative ones, and Pressley frequently seems happiest when a guest gives him something he was not expecting.

Doja pulling out a vape in the middle of the conversation accomplished exactly that.

A Small Moment Became One of the Interview’s Most Memorable Clips

Nothing particularly consequential happened when Doja produced the vape. Police were not involved. The interview was not interrupted. There was no major announcement attached to it.

That was precisely why Pressley’s reaction made the exchange funny.

Doja treated the move as completely ordinary while the host appeared momentarily caught off guard, creating the kind of contrast that Sundae Conversation regularly turns into a viral clip.

It was also another example of why Doja's appearances with Pressley work differently from many celebrity interviews. Neither participant appears particularly interested in maintaining a normal conversation. Pressley intentionally makes interactions uncomfortable, and Doja frequently responds by becoming even more unpredictable.

Their first interview had already turned her vaping into a joke.

A year later, Doja returned—and this time she barely needed Pressley to bring it up.
