Sean “Diddy” Combs could leave federal prison sooner than previously expected, with Bureau of Prisons records now listing Feb. 5, 2028, as his projected release date.

Combs, 56, is serving a 50-month federal sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey after a jury convicted him in 2025 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of the more serious racketeering-conspiracy and sex-trafficking charges following his closely watched federal trial in Manhattan.

The Feb. 5 date represents the latest in a series of adjustments to Combs’ projected release from federal custody. His date was initially listed as May 8, 2028, and has moved multiple times since he began serving his sentence. More recently, records had listed Feb. 20 before the projection moved forward by another 15 days.

Why Diddy’s Release Date Keeps Changing

The Bureau of Prisons has not publicly provided a specific explanation for the latest change to Feb. 5.

Federal release projections can change as the BOP calculates factors affecting an inmate's sentence, including applicable credits and institutional developments. Because of that, the date appearing in the federal inmate system should be treated as a projection rather than a guaranteed release date.

Combs is also participating in a drug-abuse rehabilitation program while incarcerated, according to his spokesperson. Participation in qualifying federal programs can potentially affect when an inmate leaves prison, although there has been no official confirmation that Combs’ latest 15-day adjustment was directly caused by that program.

The shifting timeline has already been noticeable. At different points, Combs’ projected release has moved both forward and backward, including dates in April, February and January 2028 before returning to February.

Serving 50 Months at Fort Dix

Combs was sentenced to 50 months in federal prison in October 2025. Because he had already been held in federal custody since his September 2024 arrest, that time was credited toward his sentence.

He was later transferred from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn to FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal correctional institution in New Jersey.

His conviction followed a nearly two-month trial that became one of the most closely watched celebrity criminal cases in years.

Federal prosecutors had accused Combs of operating a criminal enterprise and using violence, threats and his business operation to facilitate sexual exploitation. The jury ultimately rejected the government's racketeering-conspiracy charge and acquitted Combs on two sex-trafficking counts.

It convicted him instead on two counts involving transportation to engage in prostitution.

Combs has appealed his conviction and sentence. His attorneys have argued that the punishment imposed by the district court was excessive, meaning his legal battle remains active even as he serves his sentence at Fort Dix.

February 2028 Is a Projection, Not a Guaranteed Release

As of the latest BOP records reported in September, Feb. 5, 2028, is the date to watch.

That does not necessarily mean Combs will walk directly out of Fort Dix on that exact day. Federal inmates can move into different forms of community custody before the end of their sentences, and projected dates can continue changing as credits, disciplinary matters and other administrative calculations are processed.

For now, however, the latest federal record puts Combs on track for a projected February 2028 release—another adjustment in a prison timeline that has already changed several times since his sentencing.
