New details from Jack Doherty’s domestic battery arrest show that it was his girlfriend—not the streamer—who told police she grabbed a gun during the confrontation, saying she armed herself after Doherty allegedly pushed her to the floor and put his hands around her neck.

Fort Lauderdale police responded to a residence on Sept. 4 following a reported domestic dispute involving Doherty and his girlfriend.

According to the arrest report and probable cause affidavit, the confrontation began with an argument between the couple and escalated into two separate physical encounters inside the residence.

Doherty was ultimately arrested on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge.

He has since pleaded not guilty.

Girlfriend Says Argument Became Physical

According to the police account, Doherty and his girlfriend initially became involved in an argument downstairs.

His girlfriend told investigators that Doherty moved toward her and got in her face.

She responded by extending her arm toward him, resulting in scratches to Doherty.

Police said surveillance footage was consistent with portions of the initial confrontation described to investigators.

The dispute allegedly continued upstairs.

That is where the most serious allegations described in the arrest paperwork occurred.

Doherty’s girlfriend told police that he pushed her to the ground and briefly pinned her before placing his hands around her neck.

She said she remained able to breathe during the alleged encounter.

Public reporting on the case indicates Doherty was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery rather than a separate felony strangulation offense.

The allegation that Doherty put his hands around her neck therefore comes from her account contained in the police paperwork and should not be confused with a separate strangulation charge.

She Says She Grabbed Gun From Bedside Table

After the alleged encounter on the floor, Doherty’s girlfriend told officers she retrieved a firearm from a bedside table.

She said she held the weapon at her side and warned Doherty not to approach her.

The report does not describe her firing the weapon.

Her account portrays the decision to retrieve the firearm as an attempt to protect herself and create distance following the alleged physical confrontation.

That sequence is significant because online discussion surrounding Doherty’s arrest has at times created confusion over who allegedly possessed the firearm during the dispute.

According to the police report, it was Doherty’s girlfriend who said she grabbed the gun.

Doherty is not accused in the publicly reported arrest paperwork of pointing or firing a firearm at her during the incident.

Doherty’s Side Disputes Her Version

Doherty’s side has challenged the allegations.

Sources described as close to the streamer have claimed that Doherty was defending himself during the confrontation and have pointed to the scratches he sustained as evidence that the encounter was not one-sided.

Those claims represent Doherty’s side of the dispute and do not amount to a police finding that he acted in self-defense.

Likewise, the allegations contained in the probable cause affidavit have not been proven at trial.

Doherty has pleaded not guilty.

His girlfriend reportedly declined to provide a formal written statement to police, although officers documented what she told them during their response to the residence.

Doherty Arrested on Domestic Battery Charge

Police arrested Doherty following the investigation.

The streamer was booked on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge and later released after posting a $1,000 bond.

A no-contact order was also imposed as part of the case.

Doherty entered a not-guilty plea on Sept. 8.

The case adds another legal issue for the controversial streamer, whose confrontational broadcasts and public incidents have repeatedly attracted attention online.

But the allegations surrounding the Sept. 4 arrest remain unresolved.

The police report documents his girlfriend’s account that Doherty pushed her down and put his hands around her neck before she retrieved a gun.

Doherty’s side disputes her characterization of the confrontation and maintains that he was defending himself.

Those competing accounts will now have to be addressed through the court process.

For the moment, Doherty is accused—not convicted—and has formally denied the charge by entering a plea of not guilty.
