Justin Bieber had a blunt message for people publicly worrying about him: worry about yourself.

The pop superstar pushed back against the growing online conversation surrounding his well-being in June 2025 after an Instagram meme account shared a screenshot of a text exchange involving someone identified as “Grandpa.” In the messages, the grandfather said he was worried about Bieber and believed there was “so much heartbreak” in the singer’s life. Bieber eventually appeared in the comment section himself with a short response: “Worry about yourself gramps.”

The comment quickly attracted attention because it arrived during a period when Bieber's increasingly candid and sometimes cryptic social-media activity had become a subject of intense public discussion. Rather than welcoming the concern, Bieber appeared to be drawing a boundary between what he chose to share publicly and the conclusions strangers were drawing about his private life.

Bieber Was Already Pushing Back Against Public Concern

The “Gramps” exchange was not happening in isolation. Bieber had spent weeks posting messages about love, exhaustion, relationships and the pressure he felt from people telling him that he needed to change.

In one Instagram Story, Bieber said he was “tired of transactional relationships,” arguing that love requiring someone to continually perform or provide something in return was not genuine love. In another message, he wrote about feeling exhausted by being told there was always more work to do after he felt he had already given everything he could.

Those posts were interpreted by some fans as signs that Bieber was struggling, but the singer did not endorse many of the conclusions being made about him. His “Worry about yourself gramps” response instead suggested frustration with the constant analysis surrounding nearly everything he posted.

That distinction matters. Bieber publicly discussing anger, exhaustion, relationships or personal struggles does not establish a particular medical condition or prove that he was experiencing the kind of crisis some social-media users were suggesting.

Earlier that year, a representative for Bieber had also denied speculation that he was using hard drugs, calling those rumors false. The denial came amid heightened scrutiny of photographs, videos and public appearances involving the singer.

His Instagram Had Become a Window Into a More Unfiltered Bieber

Part of the concern surrounding Bieber stemmed from how openly he had begun using Instagram.

Rather than limiting his account to polished promotional material, the singer posted personal thoughts about faith, insecurity, love and relationships. He also shared messages about trying to earn love and his belief that genuine love should not depend on constantly proving one's worth.

That openness created an unusual dynamic. The more Bieber shared about what he was thinking, the more people attempted to interpret what those posts revealed about his private circumstances.

Even relatively small changes involving his social-media relationships generated headlines. Earlier in 2025, Bieber's Instagram account unfollowed his wife, Hailey Bieber, prompting immediate speculation about their marriage. Bieber subsequently said someone had accessed his account and that he had not intentionally unfollowed her.

The episode demonstrated how closely his online activity was being monitored. An Instagram follow, an unusual caption or a candid photograph could quickly become evidence for competing theories about his marriage, friendships or emotional state.

Bieber increasingly appeared unwilling to participate in that cycle on other people's terms.

The ‘Gramps’ Comment Became Part of a Bigger Conversation

The original meme that caught Bieber's attention was straightforward. A screenshot showed messages from a contact saved as “Grandpa,” who wrote that he was worried about Bieber and believed there was heartbreak in the singer's life.

The post was originally shared in May. Bieber's response appeared in June.

“Worry about yourself gramps,” he wrote.

It was only a few words, but it captured Bieber's increasingly confrontational attitude toward unsolicited assessments of his life.

Within days, that position became even clearer.

Bieber later posted another message telling people to stop repeatedly asking whether he was OK. He argued that what some people presented as concern did not necessarily feel like care from his perspective and pushed back against strangers projecting their assumptions onto him.

He also publicly acknowledged experiencing anger and described himself as “broken” while discussing the exhaustion he felt from spending years trying to fix himself according to other people's expectations. Bieber repeatedly connected those reflections to his Christian faith, which had long been an important part of his public identity.

Those comments gave fans more direct information about what Bieber himself was feeling, but they still did not validate every theory circulating about him online.

Public Scrutiny Has Followed Bieber for Most of His Life

The intensity surrounding Bieber in 2025 also reflected his unusual relationship with fame.

He became an international celebrity while still a teenager, spending much of his adolescence and adulthood under relentless media attention. His personal relationships, arrests and controversies during his younger years were extensively documented, as were his later efforts to discuss faith, marriage and the pressures that accompanied becoming famous so young.

That history means changes in Bieber's appearance or behavior frequently generate outsized attention.

By 2025, he was also navigating a different stage of his life. Bieber and Hailey had welcomed their first child, Jack Blues Bieber, in August 2024, making him a father while he continued dealing with the level of public attention that had surrounded him since his teenage years.

The result was an increasingly visible tension between Bieber's willingness to speak candidly and his frustration when audiences treated those statements as invitations to diagnose or define him.

His response to the concerned grandfather may have been delivered like a joke, but the message underneath it was consistent with what Bieber had been saying elsewhere.

He did not want strangers deciding how he was doing for him.

For fans accustomed to watching nearly every stage of Bieber's life unfold publicly, “Worry about yourself gramps” became one of the clearest indications yet that the singer was paying attention to the speculation—and had little interest in quietly accepting it.
